PASTOR’S REFLECTIONS ABOUT OUR MINISTRY

We would do well to remember, to count the blessings of this “house” and “this home” we call Bensalem Presbyterian Church. The buildings and grounds of this property hold a special place in our historic community.  They serve as a focal point for our worship and activities.  Our address points to a place we identify with discipline of our faith.  Our buildings host our worship, our meetings, our meals and our guests.  The property nurtures wildlife both tame and ‘human.’  This address is a haven and a challenge.

Our sanctuary and fellowship hall hold worship services and meals. And they are maintained by a dedicated few who straighten the pews, sweep the floors and carpets, empty the baskets, wipe the kitchen counters and purge the refrigerators, scrape the ovens and mop the floors. Members and visitors enjoy these facilities. We must remember the building is a gift.

Our properties and grounds change with the colors of the seasons and host the flow of nature’s life. Mowing, gardening, trimming, picking and gathering, moving, sweeping and tilling keep the greenery growing and the walkways clear. The quiet gardeners and tender touch do so much for the grounds we enjoy.

Our services, our classes, our concerts, our public suppers, our game nights, our food venues and sales, our studies and discussions serve to keep our doors open in different ways for different people. We must always keep our openness for others alive because it serves ourselves and others.     We have a story to tell.

And we must respond to the challenges of today. Hold fast to the strengths that affirm us and must be open to the new pathways that call us.  Our world needs stability along with accommodation. Let us walk with anticipation for the new roads ahead.  But let us also walk in the confidence of God’s leading as Disciples of Christ, not to fear the unknown but welcome its challenge.

May the Grace and Peace of our Risen Lord lead us onward in Hope.   Amen

Ken W.
